FireWire 6-pins cables are, just like the 4-pins cables, made to the FireWire 400 standard (or: 1394, 1394a interface). The two extra pins are used to power the connected device. FireWire is mostly used in Apple products and (video) cameras. Sony also uses this technology under the name 'i.Link'. These cables have a bandwidth of 400 Mbit/s.
